The I-CORE program
I-CORE - the Israeli Centers for Research Excellence - is an initiative designed by the Planning and Budgeting Committee and the Government of Israel, which gradually establishes leading research centers specializing in a range of disciplines. The Centers of Excellence and the program's vision are aimed at fundamentally strengthening the long term positioning of Israel's academic research and its stature among leading researchers in Israel and abroad.

About the center
Our center is a cross-institutional collaboration of astrophysics in Israel, connecting disciplines and institutions.
Our overall objective is to develop a coherent research program that addresses many forefront topics in Astronomy, Astrophysics and Planetary Sciences.
We explore the origins and structure of the universe, from the largest intergalactic scales down to the solar system; following cosmic evolution, from the early cosmic web, up to planets and the conditions for the formation of life.
We focus on three main subtopics that encompass today the thrust of activity in the field:
(i) The Universe and its large scale structure, the intergalactic medium, the first stars and galaxies and their evolution;
(ii) The origin and nature of compact objects and black holes of all scales, and their related high-energy astrophysical phenomena and explosions; and
(iii) Planets and planetary systems, around the sun and around other stellar systems.
